This week we will continue our look into the life of Jesus! We started by looking at Him being tempted in the wilderness. Last week, we talked about Him calling His disciples and what it meant to be a disciple. This week I want to focus on His first miracle.
Let’s look at John 2:1-11
This passage details the first known miracle of the ministry of Jesus. I believe we can break this down and learn a lot from what happened that day! We see in verse 3, the wine runs out. If you look in the NLT it says “the wine supply ran out during the festivities.” As soon as I read this verse the word supply jumped off the page. The supply had run out but Jesus was in the room. Many of us today may be dealing with a supply shortage. It may appear that things in your life are running out. This could be money, health, peace, family needs, faith or a slew of other things. Jesus is able to be the restorer of your supply. Lack isn’t in His vocabulary and it shouldn’t be in ours. We see in Ephesians 3:20 He is able to do exceeding, abundantly MORE than we can ask or think. Now, look back at John 2:4-5. We see His mother steps in to do something about the problem. In essence, she activated Jesus’ power concerning the situation they faced.
Internal Reflection: When thinking about things in your life that are lacking, have you taken the time to get Jesus involved? Have you activated HIS power in your life? Y/N
What supplies are running dry in your life? Take time to list them and find a verse or two to stand on. (You can always use a separate sheet of paper)
Let’s jump back into the scripture starting in verse 5. This is where the miracle took place. We see in verse 5 that Mary looked at the servants and commanded them to do whatever Jesus said to do. Jesus needs you to be available to be used in the miracle process, and in order to get victory in your life, you must be willing to HEAR from Jesus and then do exactly what He asks you to do. As we see through this scripture there were steps that needed to be followed for this miracle to manifest. What if they would have gotten the water in the jars but refused to walk it to the master? Had that happened, they would have just wasted time filling pots with water. Nothing would have happened. The miracle manifested as they moved, as they stepped out in faith. I’m sure this seemed ridiculous to them as they knew it was water in the pot, but they just DID exactly what He said. Pastor Chuck preached a series last year called “Whatever Jesus says, Do it” and is an excellent addition to this. It is a 4 part series and is available for purchase.
Lastly, I want to focus on divine acceleration. We can all agree that time seems to be moving much faster than ever before. Jesus is also in the acceleration business. This miracle is a miracle of acceleration. The natural process of making wine would have taken a long time. The grapes would have needed to be planted; they would grow, then need picked, and so on. What would have takes months/years Jesus performed in minutes, using something they already had access to. Jesus isn’t held to our clock and our calendar; the natural doesn’t affect him at all. He wants to speed things up in our life. I believe we are at the time in history that those with true Bible faith will see the instant manifestation. We will see things turn around for our good quickly!
*Pastor Nancy Dufresne has a wonderful message on Divine Acceleration. You can find it on her podcast, episode 382.
Say it with me:
· I will DO whatever He says to do!
· I will be an active participant in my miracle!
· I will activate Jesus and His power to work on my behalf!
· I will refuse LACK in my life!
· I expect instant manifestations!
Key Verse: Ephesians 3:20 (Take time to memorize if you haven’t already)
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us!
